See Wiltshire and Dorset from a new perspective with a combined
self-drive classic car and plane flying experience
Vintage Classics and Compton Abbas Airfield have teamed up to offer an experience package that is unique in the UK. ‘Wings and Wheels’ is available from now until September and includes a day driving a classic car and an opportunity to take to the skies in a choice of aircraft.
The unforgettable experience is perfect as a gift or a treat for those who’ll enjoy the thrill of driving a classic car through the Wiltshire and Dorset countryside, with the added excitement of flying a plane and enjoying the scenery from 2,000ft.
With a wide range of classic cars to choose from (ranging from an Austin Healey 3000 and a Jaguar E-type, to an Alfa Romeo Spider and a Morris Minor), drivers can choose their own scenic route from the heart of Wiltshire to Compton Abbas in Dorset.
Once at Compton Abbas, they’ll take control of an aircraft of their choice (a Piper Warrior, Light Sports Aircraft or a Tiger Moth) under the guidance of a fully qualified professional instructor. After lunch on top of a hill with breath-taking, panoramic 30 mile views, they’ll be able to enjoy another scenic drive back to Wiltshire.
Prices range from £159 (includes hire of a Morris Minor and a 30 minute flight in a Light Sports Aircraft) to £665 (includes hire of an Austin Healey 3000 or a Jaguar E-type, with an hour’s flight in a Tiger Moth), with many options in-between. Vintage Classics is a 10 year-old company, based in Melksham, Wiltshire, which hires out a range of beautiful classic cars for self-drive.
Each hire day is a 24 hour period with flexible hire start times, so if you collect a car on a Saturday 11am, you return it on the Sunday by 11am.
In addition, Classic Cars offers wedding car hire, gift vouchers and scenic tours.

Situated at 800ft above sea level it has spectacular views across an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The airfield restaurant and fully licensed bar is open for 360 days of the year, providing home style breakfasts, morning snacks, lunches and afternoon tea. The large outside terrace area sits adjacent to the runway with a brilliant viewpoint of all the flying activity.
