Imagine driving your choice of classic car through the beautiful and dramatic Wiltshire & Dorset countryside, having lunch on top of a hill with breath-taking panoramic 30 mile views, and then taking to the skies in your choice of aircraft to enjoy the scenery from 2000 feet...You can purchase a unique package making an unforgettable gift or a treat for yourself enjoying all of this.
Hire your choice of car and make your way along the country lanes in Wiltshire to Compton Abbas in Dorset via tourist attractions such as Stonehenge. Once there you will have a go at flying (and yes you are at the controls!) in your chosen aircraft (choose from a piper warrior / light sports aircraft or even a Chipmunk or Harvard Warbird - Few experiences will top this one - it’s the next best thing to flying in a Spitfire) under the guidance of a fully qualified professional instructor - enjoying famous local landmarks from the air such as Poole Harbour, Jurassic Coastline, Cerne Abbas Giant, Glastonbury Tor and Cheddar Gorge or an eagles eye view of Stonehenge. Once back on terra firma you can enjoy lunch at the popular airfield restaurant taking in stunning views overlooking the runway and still have another scenic drive via a different route back to Wiltshire to look forward to!.

Weight restrictions
There are weight restrictions/guides for the aircraft as follows:
- Piper Warrior 4 Seater – Max weight 20 stone
- Light Sport aircraft 2 Seater: Maximum weight 14 stone.
- Chipmunk: Maximum weight limit 16 stone.
- Harvard Warbird: Maximum weight limit 18 stone
- Boeing Stearman: Maximum weight 18 stone
Please advise if above the maximum weights as we may be able to accommodate you but may have to make some provisions.
Health: You just need to sign a temporary membership form on the day. In doing so you will state that you feel ok in yourself mentally and physically that day. If you have any concerns or medical conditions that you feel may restrict you from flying then please contact your doctor.
Age: There is a minimum age of 14 years for the Light Sport aircraft. There is a minimum age of 7 years for the Piper Warrior. There is no upper age limit.

FAQ’s
Can I take someone else up with me? The only aircraft with space in the back is the Piper Warrior. If you have a friend who would like to observe the flight (with an interest in possibly carrying out flying training in the future) then they will need to take out membership of the club for the day. This is weight and weather permitting and your flying instructor will make a decision on the day of the flight.
Where can I fly? You can choose where you want to fly in your given time, which you will do in the pre flight brief. There are some restrictions as to where pilots can fly and these can change on a daily basis - although it’s more than likely you will be able to fly where you choose.
I am thinking of learning to fly – will the experience flight count? Yes – you will be flying with a fully qualified flying instructor at a registered and fully licensed flight training organisation. So the time you spend in the air with us can be the first entry in your pilots log book!
The Restaurant/Café
Seated atop a hill in the heart of the Dorset countryside, Compton Abbas Airfield restaurant is perfect for a wake up breakfast, casual lunch or scrumptious afternoon tea. We use locally sourced ingredients where we can, supporting local businesses & creating a traditional English style cuisine.
Welcome...everyone is welcome at Compton during our published opening hours. Most of our visitors are in fact not pilots but people who just enjoy our location, views and food.
Breakfast...
Come and wake up with us at Compton. We’ve got a selection of sandwiches, full 'Compton' breakfasts and ‘yummy things on toast’ lovingly put together by our team. Our bacon, sausages and eggs come from the award winning 'Harvell's Butcher' just down the road in Iwerne Minster, and are all free range. We've recently added 'The Big Compton Breakfast' to our menu for those of you who like a really Big start to the day!
Lunch
We think our blend of food and drink, passionate staff, spectacular views and aviation activity is the perfect recipe for lunch time feasting. Menu options vary from gourmet burgers to sharing platters, mouth-watering lamb shanks or granary baguettes with thick cut ham. Our popular ‘Junior Pilots’ menu is ideal for your little ones, or if you fancy a smaller appetite meal.
Afternoon tea
Dig your fork into a flavoursome carrot cake, a delightful victoria sponge, a rich millionaire shortbread, a cheeky fruit cake….and remember, cake is nothing without a warming cappuccino, latte or tea. Our cakes are all hand made and freshly delivered from just outside of Shaftesbury.
Runway Terrace
Unusually for an airfield our runway terrace and viewing area where you can enjoy all our produce on our outside tables - overlooks the entire airfield. So whilst you are having your lunch or sipping your tea you will see all the action from the take offs and landings to the parked aircraft and experience flights.
